A Creamy Dream: Indulging in Paneer Makhani at Oh! India, Stoke-on-Trent

For lovers of rich, velvety curries and the subtle delight of Indian cottage cheese, the Paneer Makhani at Oh! India Restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent is an absolute must-try. This iconic North Indian dish is celebrated for its incredibly smooth texture and perfectly balanced flavours, offering a truly comforting and luxurious dining experience. On our recent visit, Oh! India’s rendition proved to be a heartwarming highlight, showcasing their mastery of classic Indian gravies.

Oh! India's Paneer Makhani is a feast for the senses, even before the first bite. It typically boasts a vibrant, inviting orange-red hue, a testament to the ripe tomatoes at its base. Generous cubes of fresh, soft paneer are gently simmered in this opulent sauce, absorbing its rich flavours while maintaining their delicate texture.

The true magic of Paneer Makhani lies in its gravy, often referred to as "butter paneer" for good reason. It’s a meticulously prepared blend of puréed tomatoes, cashews for creaminess, a hint of ginger and garlic, and a generous touch of butter (makhani means "buttery"). What sets Oh! India's version apart is the perfect balance of sweetness and tang, complemented by aromatic spices like green cardamom, fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi), and a touch of garam masala. The result is an incredibly smooth, luscious sauce that is rich without being heavy, and subtly spiced to perfection.

This dish is the epitome of comfort food, offering a gentle warmth and a deeply satisfying flavour that appeals to all palates, including those who prefer milder curries. It’s absolutely divine when paired with warm, fluffy naan bread, ideal for soaking up every last drop of the exquisite gravy, or alongside fragrant basmati rice.

If you're in Stoke-on-Trent and seeking a truly authentic, sumptuously creamy, and delicately spiced vegetarian curry, the Paneer Makhani at Oh! India is an exceptional choice. It’s a dish that embodies elegance and comfort, promising a memorable and deeply satisfying culinary experience.
